Fortunately, thanks to early releases and a variety of streaming services, you can enjoy even the newest movies from the comfort of your own home.

Here are several must-see movies of 2020 so far, that you can now watch on-demand or on your favourite streaming service.

Misbehaviour

Misbehaviour is a British comedy-drama about the 1970 Miss World competition in which the first black competitor was crowned. The film follows a group of feminist protestors and their plan for the universal event.

The film stars Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keeley Hawes, Jessie Buckley, Phyllis Lohan, Lesley Manville, Greg Kinnear, and Rhys Ifans.

Misbehaviour was released in theatres across the UK on 13 March 2020. Then just four days later the theatres were forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic. On 15 April 2020, the film was made available on-demand, giving anyone with access to YouTube, Amazon Prime, or Google Play the opportunity to see it.

Emma

Emma is an adaptation of the 1815 novel by Jane Austen. The movie is about a young woman, Emma Woodhouse, who acts as a matchmaker for her friends and family in Georgian and Regency-era England.

The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy, and Miranda Hart.

Emma was released in theatres in the UK on 14 February 2020. As of 20 March 2020, it was available to watch on YouTube, Google Play, and Amazon Prime. Emma was released on DVD on 19 May 2020.

Onward

Onward is a great option for the whole family. The computer-animated Disney and Pixar film tells the tale of two elven brothers who embark on a magical quest to have one more day with their late father. Chris Pratt and Tom Holland lend their voices to the brothers.

The film was in theatres for just two weeks before cinemas closed because of the pandemic. It was released in UK cinemas on 6 March 2020. On 4 May 2020, it was available to watch on Amazon Prime, Sky Store, iTunes, and Google Play. Onward was released on DVD, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray on 19 May 2020.

The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds is an American romantic comedy about a couple who are tinkering on the edge of a breakup when they’re suddenly forced to go on the run after witnessing a murder. The film stars Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani as Lellani and Jibran.

The Lovebirds was scheduled to be released in theatres on 3 April, but was later made available on-demand on Netflix 22 May. Viewers who are looking for an enjoyable date night film or an entertaining movie to watch solo will find The Lovebirds to be a pleasant distraction from the global pandemic.

The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man is a science fiction horror film that gives viewers a different reason to grip the edge of their seats. Elizabeth Moss, perhaps best known for her role in Handmaid’s Tale, stars as a woman in a terrifying fight against her ex-boyfriend, a scientist who turns himself invisible to stalk and terrorize her.

The Invisible Man was released in theatres on 28 February, then became available on-demand on 20 March 2020. You can watch it on Amazon Prime, YouTube, or Google Play until it is released on DVD on 29 June 2020.

Inheritance

Inheritance is an American thriller about a wealthy and powerful man who passes away suddenly, leaving his wife and daughter with a shocking secret inheritance with the potential to destroy the lives of the whole family.

Inheritance stars Lily Collins, Simon Pegg, Chace Crawford, Connie Nielsen, and Patrick Warburton.

Inheritance was scheduled to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on 20 April 2020. When the festival was postponed because of the pandemic, the film was rescheduled for release on 22 May 2020. It is available to watch on Amazon Prime.

The Way Back

The Way Back is a must-see for sports fans and a great film for anyone who could use an uplifting, motivational distraction from the pandemic.

The film stars Ben Affleck as a man who once shined on the basketball court but is now painstakingly making his way through life. When he is hired by his old high school to coach the basketball team, he’s inspired to make it great once again.

The Way Back was released on 24 March 2020 and is available to watch on Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, and iTunes.

The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild stars Harrison Ford as a man named John Thornton and a CGI canine. The film is loosely based on Jack London’s 1903 novel by the same name. The Call of the Wild follows a dog named Buck as he is stolen from his home in California and sent to the Yukon. It is in the wilderness of the Yukon that Buck befriends Thornton. Together they set out on an adventure that would change their lives in ways neither of them expected.

The Call of the Wild was first released in theatres on 21 February 2020 before being released on streaming services on 27 March. It’s a feel-good film every member of your family can enjoy.

Beanpole

Beanpole is a noteworthy film about an absurdly tall nurse who tends to wounded soldiers in a Leningrad hospital just after World War II. The movie follows Beanpole, who also fought in the war, as she and her friend Masha struggle to overcome their own traumas.
